Sprinkler Bulb Types: a small detail that makes a big difference
In fire protection design, performance often comes down to the smallest components.
Glass bulb sprinklers use color coding to indicate their temperature rating. This ensures the sprinkler activates at the right moment. Not too early, not too late.
• Orange – 57°C (ordinary areas)
• Red – 68°C (offices, hotels)
• Yellow – 79°C (moderately warm areas)
• Green – 93°C (industrial environments)
As the surrounding temperature rises, the liquid inside the bulb expands until the glass breaks, allowing water to discharge through the deflector.
Choosing the correct bulb rating is not just a specification detail. It directly affects compliance, reliability, and life safety.
For MEP and fire engineers, this is where good design shows.
