SPILL MANAGEMENT DON’T WAIT, CONTROL IT

A spill is not just a housekeeping issue. If it is not controlled quickly and correctly, it can create slip hazards, fire risks, chemical exposure, equipment damage, soil contamination, and environmental pollution. 🌍⚠️
👷‍♂️ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN A SPILL OCCURS?
🔴 1. ASSESS THE SITUATION
Identify the substance, approximate quantity, source, location and potential hazards before approaching the spill.
🛑 2. STOP THE SOURCE — IF SAFE
Isolate or stop the leak only when it can be done without exposing yourself or others to danger.
🟠 3. PROTECT PEOPLE & ISOLATE THE AREA
Keep unauthorized personnel away. Use warning signs, barriers or cones where required.
🟡 4. WEAR THE CORRECT PPE
Use chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles/face protection, suitable footwear and protective clothing according to the chemical hazard.
🟢 5. CONTAIN THE SPILL
Use spill pads, absorbent materials, socks, booms, dikes or other approved containment methods to prevent further spreading.
🔵 6. PROTECT DRAINS & WATERWAYS
Never allow contaminated material to enter drains, soil, groundwater or nearby water bodies. 🌊🌱
🧹 7. CLEAN UP SAFELY
Use the correct absorbent or recovery method for the spilled material. Do not use an unsuitable cleanup technique just to make the area look clean.
🗑️ 8. DISPOSE OF CONTAMINATED WASTE PROPERLY
Place used absorbents and contaminated materials into properly labelled containers and follow the approved waste-management procedure.
📢 9. REPORT & REVIEW
Report the spill through the site reporting system. Investigate the cause and take corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
🧰 SPILL KIT — KEEP IT READY!
A workplace spill kit should be suitable for the hazards present and may include:
✔️ Absorbent pads
✔️ Absorbent socks/booms
✔️ Suitable gloves
✔️ Goggles or face protection
✔️ Waste/disposal bags or containers
✔️ Caution signage
✔️ Appropriate cleanup tools
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER
❌ Do not handle an unknown chemical without proper information.
❌ Do not mix chemicals during cleanup unless specifically approved.
❌ Do not wash contaminated material into drains.
❌ Do not use water, neutralizers or dispersants unless the method is approved and safe for the specific substance and location.
❌ Do not enter an area where the spill creates an uncontrolled fire, toxic exposure or other serious hazard.
🌍 THE GOAL IS SIMPLE:
Contain the spill → Protect people → Prevent environmental damage → Clean safely → Report → Prevent recurrence.
💡 A small spill handled correctly can prevent a major incident tomorrow.

Detailed schematic diagram of a chilled water system, illustrating how chilled water is produced and circulated to a fan coil unit (FCU) for air conditioning. The system involves several components and stages: + System Flow Overview Chiller Plant: The chilled unit produces cold water, typically around 6-7°C (43-45°F), by removing heat through a refrigeration cycle. Pump Section: The primary CHW pump circulates the chilled water from the chiller into the distribution network. hashtag Activate to view larger image,
