Essential Electrical Notes Every Electrical Engineer Should Save

Essential Electrical Notes Every Electrical Engineer Should Save Correct sizing of protection devices and power components is one of the most important aspects of electrical system design. Oversizing increases cost, while under sizing can lead to overheating, nuisance tripping, equipment failure, and serious safety risks. This quick reference covers the basic sizing guidelines for capacitor bank components. 📌 Key Design Formulas 1. Capacitor Current (3-Phase) I = (kVAR × 1000) / (√3 × Voltage) This is the foundation for selecting all downstream components. 2. HRC Fuse Selection • Fuse Rating ≈ 1.6 × Capacitor Current ‣ Handles capacitor inrush current ‣ Protects against short circuits ‣ Use HRC fuses with high breaking capacity 3. MCCB Selection • MCCB Rating ≈ 1.25 × Capacitor Current ‣ Provides overload and short-circuit protection ‣ Choose suitable breaking capacity (Icu/Ics) ‣ Coordinate with upstream protection devices 4. Capacitor Duty Contactor Unlike standard contactors,...

The treatment process used to remove impurities and toxins from sewage or industrial water is referred to as wastewater treatment.

Wastewater treatment services in water treatment plants involve comprehensive physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove contaminants, including screening, sedimentation, and sludge handling, ensuring safe water discharge or reuse . Key services include plant installation (ETP/STP), operation and maintenance (O&M), performance audits, and sludge management for industrial and commercial sectors

The wastewater treatment services market is projected to grow from USD 62.65 billion in 2024 to USD 92.74 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 6.87% from 2025 to 2030.

The treatment process used to remove impurities and toxins from sewage or industrial water is referred to as wastewater treatment. The treated water can be safely discharged back into the environment. Wastewater is contaminated with a range of pollutants, including bacteria, chemicals, and other toxins that are detrimental to the environment. Its treatment aims to reduce contaminants to acceptable levels, making the water safe for discharge back into the environment.

Opportunity: Sustainable approach through reduce-recycle-reuse
The three Rs of sustainability are reduction, recycling, and reuse. These practices help prevent waste and conserve natural resources. A great example of responsible corporate behavior is adopting green practices, such as the three Rs, at the facility or company level. Reusing treated wastewater for beneficial purposes, such as industrial processes, toilet flushing, landscape and agricultural irrigation, and groundwater recharge, is known as water recycling.

Challenge: Competition from alternative water sources
The wastewater treatment industry faces ongoing threats from the increasing use of alternative water sources, such as rainwater harvesting and desalination, which reduce reliance on treated wastewater. In water-scarce regions of the Middle East, for example, desalination capacity reached 40 million cubic meters daily in 2023, providing drinking water for industry, agriculture, and municipalities. This large-scale shift diverts attention from wastewater reuse, which UN-Water reports as accounting for only 11% of the global water supply, despite advances in treatment technology. Desalination is favored because it offers safe, high-quality water, whereas public perception issues continue to hinder the reuse of wastewater.

Cathodic Corrosion Protection Systems: A Guide for Oil and Gas Industries

Cathodic Corrosion Protection Systems Cathodic Corrosion Protection Systems: A Guide for Oil and Gas Industries Preface Contents Preface The oil and gas industry depends on steel and other metals for pipelines, storage tanks, and infrastructure. However, these metals can corrode when exposed to water or soil, which is detrimental to the integrity of pipelines and storage tanks. This engineering book outlines the minimum requirements for anodes (high-silicon iron, graphite, magnetite) used in impressed current CP systems. It details the composition, materials, manufacturing, properties, inspection, and testing of these anodes. Additionally, it provides revised survey requirements to ensure corrosion control systems on buried or submerged structures are well-designed, operated, and maintained. The book also covers techniques, equipment, ...
