🏙️ LEED Alignment Matrix for High‑Rise Green Building The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) framework provides a structured approach to evaluate and certify sustainable building performance. For high‑rise developments, aligning facility management and design strategies with LEED credits ensures long‑term efficiency, occupant well‑being, and environmental stewardship. 🧩 LEED Category Alignment LEED Category Applicable Strategies in High‑Rise Buildings Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Sustainable Sites (SS) Green roofs, terrace gardens, storm water management, heat‑island reduction Vegetation coverage %, runoff reduction Water Efficiency (WE) Rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, low‑flow fixtures Water savings %, reuse volume Energy & Atmosphere (EA) High‑efficiency HVAC, smart metering, renewable integration (solar/wind), ener...

Most Commonly Used Valves in Chilled Water Piping:
1. Isolation Valves
Type: Gate Valve or Butterfly Valve
Purpose: To isolate the AHU coil or branch for maintenance without shutting down the entire system.
Typical Locations: On both supply and return lines near the AHU.
Also sometimes at chiller headers.
2. Control Valve
Type: 2-Way or 3-Way Motorized Valve
Purpose: Modulates chilled water flow through the AHU coil based on temperature or load demand.
Control Type:
2-Way Valve → Variable flow system
3-Way Valve → Constant flow system with bypass
3. Balancing Valve
Type: Manual or Automatic Balancing Valve
Purpose: Ensures correct water flow (GPM) to each AHU coil as per design.
Typical Location: On return line downstream of coil and control valve.
4. Check Valve (Non-return Valve)
Type: Swing or Spring Check Valve
Purpose: Prevents reverse flow of chilled water when multiple AHUs are connected to the same loop.
5. Strainer (Y-Strainer)
Purpose: Removes debris from water to protect the AHU coil and control valve.
Location: On the supply side before the control valve.
6. Drain and Air Vent Valves
Drain Valve: For flushing or draining coil water during maintenance (at the lowest point).
Air Vent Valve: For releasing trapped air from the coil (at the highest point).
✅ Typical Connection Layout Summary:
Supply Line (from chiller to AHU):
Isolation Valve → Strainer → Control Valve → Coil Inlet
Return Line (from AHU to chiller):
Coil Outlet → Balancing Valve → Pressure & Temperature Gauges → Isolation Valve
